Harlequin

hoh_plants_of_interest_01

The original Harlequin displays a 5 to 2, CBD to THC ratio. The very first test results I saw, was 8 percent CBD and 5 percent THC. It has tested as high as 14 percent CBD and about 6 percent THC. A very vigorous grower, Harlequin can produce huge colas. The original mother plant is a swiss landrace that farmers tolerated because their cows liked it. A farmer, who lived in that area, didn’t like that this strain never finished flowering so, while traveling, he gathered seeds of Colombian sativa, Thai sativa and Nepalese indica. These landraces tested high in THC for the Columbian and Thai. But the Swiss plant, and the Indica from Nepal, both came back high in CBD, with virtually no THC.

That is the original parenting of Harlequin as we understand it. It’s a dark green heavy feeder. It displays its indica lineage. It sets flower readily by first of August outdoors. It’s a reliable plant indoors. Structure can be Christmas tree-like, but easy enough to be a bush. The flowers come on very quickly, which stood out from the very beginning. It’s great for pain relief and popular with veterans to treat PTSD, or people with nervous system injuries because of its effect on body and mind. Helpful with cancer and epilepsy.

Ringo's Gift

hoh_plants_of_interest_02

Named after the late renowned breeder Lawrence Ringo, Ringo’s Gift is a versatile hybrid that displays several ratios: from 1:1 CBD to THC, to as high as 24:1.  However, this strain  was bred specifically to capture a 1:1 THC to CBD ratio that typically reaches levels as high as 10 percent CBD and THC, which makes it a favorite for extractions used by patients who need large quantities  to experience relief. In cultivation, Ringo’s Gift wants support and warmth.

Flowers are large and airy, nestled in intense green leaves. Orange hairs, a thick frosty coating of white crystal trichomes makes this strain a fitting tribute to Ringo’s work. People report experiencing mellow highs that tether between cerebral activity and a blanket of wellness and bodily relaxation. Patients suffering from chronic anxiety, muscle spasms or tremors, inflammation, and chronic pain could benefit from this gift.

hoh_plants_of_interest_03

A sativa-dominant hybrid plant, Medi-Haze was created as a three-way cross between Super Silver Haze, Neville’s Haze and an unknown European high CBD strain. This phenotype was intended to capture a CBD level that is twice as high as its THC level, sometimes showing as much as 9 percent CBD to 4 to 6 percent THC.

This strain is quickly becoming of great interest to the medical community because it has been found to help with severe epileptic conditions. Its high sativa profile gives patients energy and alertness. It displays medium-sized dense heavy dark olive-green flowers and rich purple undertones, incandescent purple hairs, and a glacial layer of thick milky trichomes. This plant can be a real horse and does great outdoors.

hoh_plants_of_interest_05

This high CBD strain has a low THC level that ranges from 0.42 percent to 1.2 percent. Its CBD to THC ratio is 20:1. It is a cross between Ruderalis and Cannatonic. Due to its high CBD content, this strain is excellent for treating chronic pains, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, seizures, nausea, tumours and tremors. It can also mitigate the adverse effects produced by chemotherapy.

Wade’s protip: AC/DC does really well strong growth and heavy buds if the temperature is in the mid 70s to low 80s. Grown outdoors in 85 to 100 degrees it grows like a fern — lacy and delicate it can hardly hold its own weight up.

hoh_plants_of_interest_08

This strain is a cross of a high CBD strain called Otto and AC/DC that was created in Nevada County, California. You get a wide range of phenotypes. Once in a while, you get a THC plant but most of the seeds are 1:1, 3:1 or 25:1. There are cuttings going around called Electra #4 which is a reliable 25:1.

Similar to AC/DC in terms of helping patients displays strong sativa characteristics. Elektra does much better in the heat of an outdoor summer garden than AC/DC. During the first six weeks of flower, you’ll have to make room for it because it will keep growing. If you can allow the full 12 weeks, they get quite heavy.
